Dominic Calvert-Lewin announced his departure from Everton last month after nine years with the club, having joined from Sheffield United as a 19-year-old in 2016.
Now 28, the striker departs Merseyside having scored 71 goals and added 22 assists in his 273 matches for the Toffees, but upon the expiry of his contract with the club, his departure has been confirmed as he looks for pastures new in a bid to revive his career.
The 11-time England international had his standout season at Goodison Park in the 2020-21 campaign under Carlo Ancelotti, scoring 21 goals in all competitions as the club delivered their only top 10 finish in the last six seasons.
In the four seasons since, the striker has just 17 Premier League goals to his name, including just three in the most recent league campaign as he struggled for game time, completing 90 minutes just once post-November and missing three months through injury.
Newcastle are deemed to be market leaders as they hunt for a new striker with rumours circulating that Alexander Isak wishes to leave St James' Park this summer.
With Callum Wilson also departing the club following the end of last season, Isak's departure would leave 21-year-old William Osula as the only recognised striker in Eddie Howe's squad, and with the club's participation in the Champions League next season a bulk up in squad is necessary.
Calvert-Lewin being a homegrown player and being available on a free transfer will make him a valuable member to any side he joins, both in terms of the quota for being homegrown as well as from a financial and PSR regulation standpoint.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin next club odds (talkSPORT BET)
- Newcastle - 5/4
- Manchester United - 11/4
- Chelsea - 4/1
- Aston Villa - 8/1
- West Ham - 10/1
- Brighton - 16/1
- Nottingham Forest - 16/1
- Arsenal - 20/1
- Leeds - 20/1
- Tottenham - 20/1
Manchester United are priced as the second favourites at 11/4 to sign the Yorkshireman, having splashed plenty of cash of number nines in recent transfer windows without yet having found the right fit.
The Red Devils have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee as their only two out and out nines in the first team but neither have been able to pin down the position since their signings, which could leave Ruben Amorim looking elsewhere in the market, and taking a punt on Calvert-Lewin on what seems a relatively risk-free punt.
Chelsea are also deemed to be interested in the striker, priced at 4/1, perhaps due to the both Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku being heavily linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge, but the Blues have already bought two strikers this summer, in Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.
Aston Villa are another team rumoured to be interested in bringing the former Everton striker to the West Midlands, with Ollie Watkins currently the side's only recognised number nine, and the need for competition for places rife with their Europa League participation this season.
West Ham are rumoured to be the side leading the hunt for the 28-year-old, with Graham Potter looking to bolster his options in the position which has been an issue with the team for a number of years now.
New strikers seem to come and go at the London Stadium but the managers always tend to fall back on 35-year-old Michail Antonio as their first choice, though the striker has now departed the club, leaving a hole in the striker department for Potter's side.
Danny Ings has also just left the east London club this summer upon the expiry of their contracts, while Evan Ferguson has returned to Brighton following his loan spell, leaving just Niclas Fullkrug, who struggling to impress in his first season at the club with just three goals from 20 appearances, as a senior striker.
