Bristol City appoint manager who suffered shock sacking with team on brink of promotion

Bristol City have appointed Gerhard Struber as their new manager.
The Austrian coach has signed a three-year deal at Ashton Gate after replacing Liam Manning.
Struber arrives a month after his shock exit from German side Koln with two matches remaining of the season.
Despite the club sitting in the 2. Bundesliga's automatic promotion spots, he was sacked after two matches without a win.
Koln went on to secure promotion as champions by winning their final two fixtures.
Struber had been appointed last summer after the club's relegation from the Bundesliga.
The 48-year-old will now be eyeing promotion to the Premier League during the upcoming campaign.
Speaking to the club website, he explained: "I am very excited for the job here with great fans and a great team. I’m looking forward to a new task.
"The style of play here fits completely, especially developing young players.
"This is a very interesting group, and I think they did a great job last season and were very successful. Right now is the time to build and do everything we can to take us to the next level.
"The big responsibility is in the first team, to build, develop and create results but at the same time it is a duty to bring players from the local area and into the academy and give them a pathway to become a professional footballer at Bristol City.
"I like to play with high intensity on the field. We will control, we will dominate the game, and we’ll play attractive football for the fans.
"We need them [fans] behind us, we need them over the whole season and with us through the ups and downs. We need the twelfth man behind us to help us achieve and take the next step."
Struber arrives with Championship experience having spent 11 months in charge of Barnsley between 2019 and 2020.
During that period he secured a dramatic escape from relegation on the final day of the season five years ago.
His coaching career has also included spells managing New York Red Bulls and RB Salzburg.
Struber arrives two weeks after Manning's exit was confirmed as he left to take over at Norwich.
The former Robins boss departed after achieving the club's highest finish for 17 years.
City ended the campaign in sixth to secure a spot in the play-offs.
However, they were thrashed 6-0 on aggregate by Sheffield United in the semi-finals.
