Birmingham City rivals 'in discussions' with free agent target
Hull City will hope to make a breakthrough in their quest to sign striker Oliver McBurnie this week, with the forward set to hold talks with Sergej Jakirovic
Hull City are hoping to make progress this week in their pursuit of Birmingham City-linked striker Oli McBurnie, with the forward set to have discussions with Sergej Jakirovic.
That's according to HullLive who say the Tigers have been 'in discussions' with the Scottish international since he left Las Palmas, after the 29 year old decided against staying in Spain following their drop from La Liga.
They say that so far, these talks have been promising, with indications that McBurnie prefers a move to the MKM Stadium over his former club Swansea City. A return to Sheffield United could also be on the cards, provided Chris Wilder remains at the helm.
However, a comeback to Bramall Lane a year after his departure is considered highly unlikely if Wilder is let go.
Now that Hull City have appointed Jakirovic, the Bosnian head coach is expected to meet with the striker later this week to discuss a permanent transfer to the MKM Stadium, with hopes of finalising the deal swiftly.
McBurnie has emerged as one of the club's main transfer targets this summer. Although he will be available on a free transfer after activating an exit clause in his Canary Islands contract, his wage package is still expected to be a significant financial commitment for the Tigers.
It's understood that both parties have broadly agreed on a financial package, and now McBurnie's decision will hinge on where he wants to play his football next season, with Jakirovic playing a crucial role.
