Birmingham City lead striker chase as clause puts Blues on alert after rivals admit he's on 'list'
Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive brings you what is being said about a striker who could be set to return to the Championship
Birmingham City are reported to be at the front of the queue to sign former Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie - but face a battle to prise him out of Spain.
McBurnie will be a free agent this summer after leaving Las Palmas following their relegation from La Liga due to a clause in his contract that says he can leave if they suffered the drop.
According to Sun transfer expert Alan Nixon, Hull and Swansea are also vying with the Blues for the 29-year-old's signature, but it is claimed he wants to remain in Spain with Celta Vigo.
Vigo are keen on a deal for McBurnie after qualifying for the Europa League and want to add greater attacking depth to their squad.
A return to Championship rivals Swansea has also been mooted as an option with director of football Richard Montague admitting: “I think everybody knows about Oli and his qualities and his situation as well.
“He is one we have spoken about and will be a name on various lists that we have. He is clearly a very, very good player but I’d be unwilling to say whether that’s progressing or has progressed any further."
McBurnie scored five goals in 35 appearances for Las Palmas last season.
The 17-cap Scotland international has also notched up 125 Championship appearances playing for the Blades and Swansea City, and has bagged 44 goals and eight assists in that time.
He's also played 96 times in the Premier League, scoring 13 goals. In 159 appearances for Sheffield United following his £20m move from Swansea City in 2019, he netted 29 goals.
