Jobe Bellingham transfer news: Sunderland accept club-record offer for midfielder from Borussia Dortmund

Excluding add-ons, Jobe Bellingham will become the second most expensive signing in Borussia Dortmund's history; it will also be the highest transfer fee Sunderland have ever received for a player

Jobe Bellingham is undergoing a medical with Borussia Dortmund ahead of joining from Sunderland.

Sunderland have agreed an initial fee worth around £27.8m (€33m) with Dortmund for the 19-year-old's sale.

The agreement also includes a 15 per cent sell-on clause, and will be the highest transfer fee the newly-promoted Premier League club have ever received.

This represents a significant increase on Dortmund's £16.8m (€20m) opening bid and once completed, it will be the highest transfer fee Sunderland have ever received

Excluding add-ons, Bellingham will become the second most expensive signing in Borussia Dortmund's history and with realistic add-ons in place, he could become their record signing ahead of Ousamne Dembele.

Sunderland negotiated around £4.2m (€5m) worth of add-ons into the deal with Dortmund. Around £2.1m (€2.5m) of those add-ons are easily achievable, while the other half are more challenging.

Dortmund convinced Bellingham to join them, despite interest from Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig.

Bellingham, whose older brother Jude played for the Bundesliga club for three seasons, helped Sunderland secure promotion back to the Premier League through the Championship play-off final after eight years away from the top flight.

Like his brother Jude, Jobe came through Birmingham's academy and spent two years in the first team after making his debut in 2021 aged 16. He will again follow in his brother Jude's footsteps by playing for Dortmund if the move goes through.

Sunderland signed him from the Blues in the summer of 2023.

'Sunderland looking to sign four or five new players'

Latest from Sky Sports News' Keith Downie:

"Sunderland are looking to sign four or five new players this summer, with the priority being the spine of the team.

"There is every chance they will break their transfer record again, having done so already with the £20m permanent signing of Enzo Le Fee.

"Sunderland are currently not pursuing former captain Jordan Henderson, but that doesn't mean it won't happen later in the window depending on circumstances."
