Birmingham City are still waiting for Kwame Poku to select his next destination as one of the summer’s emerging transfer sagas rumbles on.

BirminghamLive has been told the former Peterborough United winger has interest from around 25 other suitors, both in the UK and overseas and he and his representatives seem to be carefully going through his options.

Blues have been tracking the 23-year-old for at least the last three transfer windows and have been the ones most frequently connected with taking a player whose contract ends on June 30.

However, they are not the only ones with a host of other clubs also keen, including newly-promoted clubs Burnley and Sunderland and defeated Championship play-off finalists Sheffield United.

Peterborough have made no secret that St Andrew’s is their recommended destination, with obvious links between Blues and former manager – and Posh director of football – Barry Fry and support from the club’s owner Darragh MacAnthony.

Poku and his camp seem to be moving at their own speed, though with the winger’s next move potentially decisive a career that started in lower league football before Peterborough took him from League Two Colchester United in 2021.

Since then he has played 147 times for Posh, scoring 30 goals and adding 30 assists as he built a reputation as one of the most exciting players in the third tier.

Last season he overcame a hamstring injury to contribute 23 goal involvements in 31 games, scoring one of his dozen goals against Blues on the evening they secured promotion in April. He was also a key part of the team which denied Chris Davies’ men a league and cup double at Wembley.

While Blues would be keen to wrap things up, Peterborough are in no rush. They know he will not return to them but hold plenty of cards if negotiations go to a tribunal because they are entitled to a compensation payment.

As things stand Blues do have options out wide in the form of Keshi Anderson and injury-blighted pair Emil Hansson and Scott Wright. They have sold attacker Romelle Donovan to Brentord and are likely to need more consistency and quality from wide areas in the Championship.
