Birmingham City can make dream signing with 'scary' winger up for sale
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has excelled in the Championship on loan at Sheffield United and could be available to buy this summer
Crystal Palace are reportedly open to offers for Championship proven winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi – and that should pique the interest of Birmingham City’s powerbrokers.
Blues are in the market for wide reinforcements and Rak-Sakyi, a left-footed right winger with bags of speed and skill, has been made available by FA Cup winners Crystal Palace according to News Shopper.
Rak-Sakyi has spent this season on loan at Sheffield United who will contest the Championship play-off final against Sunderland at Wembley on Saturday.
The 22-year-old was linked with a loan move to Blues in 2023 after a stunning season in League One with Charlton Athletic saw him register 23 goal contributions and clean up at the Addicks’ end-of-season awards.
He didn’t go out on loan in 2023/24 in the end, instead making six Premier League appearances for Palace, before making the move to the Championship last summer. Rak-Sakyi has scored seven goals for Sheffield United and made 35 league appearances under Chris Wilder, including 22 starts.
Rak-Sakyi has had trouble forcing his way into Oliver Glasner’s plans at Palace, hence why he opted to leave on loan last summer.
In November, Glasner commented: “If a player wants to leave, then it’s better to allow it. If a player doesn’t want to be here, it makes no sense to put chains over his arms.
"He has to integrate into the way we are playing. If he does, the door is open. If he doesn’t, the door is closed.”
According to News Hopper, the Selhurst Park door is closing on Rak-Sakyi. They claim Palace will listen to offers for the winger who has two years remaining on his contract.
Blues are in the market for top-end Championship players and while Rak-Sakyi would be an ambitious target, he is the sort of player the club requires to reach the next level.
‘He’s got so much to give. His ability is scary,” says Crystal Palace ambassador Mark Bright.
A left-footed right-sider fits the balance of Chris Davies’ system and Kwame Poku, who has left Peterborough United, is being targeted. Poku is a wanted man though with up to 30 teams apparently interested in signing him.
Rak-Sakyi has already done the business at Championship level and has England under-21 caps to his name. He would be a statement signing to say the least.
