Premier League LIVE: Guardiola condemns Man United fans, Amorim hits back at Neville, Southampton relegated, Liverpool lose

The Premier League is back after a hiatus, and we're in the middle of a bumper Sunday of top-flight action.

Arsenal dropped more points on Saturday as the title slipped further and further away from their grasp.

However, Liverpool failed to capitalise as they were handed just their second league loss under Arne Slot at Fulham.

Southampton have become the first team relegated this season after a loss to Spurs confirmed their unfortunate fate.

A lacklustre Manchester derby then ended goalless ahead of the final match of this gameweek between Leicester and Newcastle.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has told his players to use Harvey Barnes as an example as he prepares to return to former club Leicester for the first time.

The 27-year-old left the King Power Stadium in a £38million switch to Tyneside in July 2023 after the Foxes' relegation from the top flight, but has had to remain patient since as he vies with Anthony Gordon for a place on the left side of Howe's front three.

Gordon's recent suspension and injury have handed Barnes a chance which saw him start the Magpies' Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool and as he heads back to the East Midlands, Howe faces a difficult choice between him and the England international.

Asked what the wideman has to do to establish himself as a regular, the head coach said: "Well, I think it's continue to take your chance. I always say that to every player.

"The training ground is match day for the lads that aren't playing, so they need to see training as that important.

"They need to impress me. They need to show that they're better than the player in their position and that's a really healthy squad dynamic to have, so for anyone not playing, that's how they need to view it."

Ruben Amorim has accused Gary Neville of being ‘critical about everything’ after his no-nonsense analysis of the Manchester derby.

The former Manchester United defender didn’t hold back as he slammed the quality of Sunday’s goalless clash with Manchester City.

United mustered just two shots on target during a quiet derby at Old Trafford.

Neville launched into an explosive rant during his analysis on Sky Sports, which even saw him apologise for his own performance on co-commentary.

Amorim has now hit back with an answer that had some reporters laughing during his own post-match press conference.

When responding to a question about Neville’s comments, Amorim smiled as he said: “I understand that Gary Neville is critical about everything so I understand that part.

“Then I understand that we are in the moment that we are doing the worst season in history. Manchester City won everything in the past, (but) this season is struggling.

“So we are not in the best moments to give the best spectacle to every fan. We are not fighting for the big things so of course it’s different but you have to look at the context of the game.

“I understand the critical aspect of the players that played in this game in a different way because they were fighting every time for the titles so it’s a different context.”

  • 'They should be ashamed'

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola accused Manchester United supporters of lacking class after singing vulgar chants about Phil Foden's mother during Sunday's derby.

Guardiola said rival supporters should be ashamed having also targeted the England international as he left the field following a drab goalless draw at Old Trafford.

He said: "The chants to him? Lack of class. But it's not United, it's the people.

"We are so exposed, the people who are now on the screen in world football - managers, owners, and football players, especially.

"Honestly, I don't understand the mind of the people, involving the mum from Phil, being involved in that.

"It's a lack of integrity, class - and they should be ashamed. But it's what it is, it's happening everywhere I would say, not just in UK, everywhere."

Dougie Freedman has been officially announced as the new sporting director of Diriyah Club Sports Company after leaving Crystal Palace.

Among his multi-club role, the Scot will oversee recruitment for Al Diriyah, who will play in the second tier of Saudi football next season, having won the Saudi Second Division Group B.

Al Diriyah are owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund [PIF], who also own Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al Ahli and reigning Saudi champions Al Hilal.

  • Nev-er a dull moment

Gary Neville pinpointed where Manchester United must improve in an explosive rant following their derby day draw.

The Red Devils held Manchester City to a 0-0 stalemate at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Neville's former club mustered just two shots on target during the match, where he was on co-commentary duties for Sky Sports.

Neville explained: "I think they all walked off thinking ‘we’re ok here we got away without making a mistake’. That was the sort of type of game. It was really disappointing.

"I apologise for my co-commentary actually, I think I let it get to me. I was boring on there as well, drab as well. Honestly, the whole game."

  • Phil your boots

Phil Foden endured another difficult afternoon as he lasted less than an hour of the goalless draw at Old Trafford.

Foden, who masterminded a 3-1 comeback win in the Manchester derby last season, has struggled to find his best form all season.

However, Pep Guardiola rejected the suggestion that the England ace is low on confidence and stressed he will regain his true self.

“When the team is not playing at the level that we had, it looks like everyone is not what they were,” he said.

“I see the passion and smile on his face every day in training and that is what I want.

“You see the numbers of players who have been four, five, six years. This year we drop and it’s all of them – that’s why we are struggling to win games but the quality is there. .

“He won the Premier League in the last games [last year], in the game against West Ham with two goals. His impact was incredible and he will be back.

“He fought, he had chances, he shot in the first half and chances that normally the ball is in the net. It happens but now is not to judge.

“We are where we are, we knew it.

“FA Cup semi-finals, eight games left and everyone is going to give everything and learning for the guys who played every single game, how they impacted, and this is what they’re going to do.”

  • Bored Trafford

Roy Keane told Sky Sports: "We saw the lack of quality [from Man United], the lack of goals holding the club back the last couple of years.

"I'm not sure what the mindset is in this group in terms of winning football matches.

"I think they need to show more courage. You go back to teams I played under, and I know you'll say this team isn't as good as that, obviously not, but there's a responsibility, when you're playing for Manchester United, to win football matches.

"What we've seen today, as much as we're all disappointed with it, what were we expecting? They don't score enough goals, and they've not done for the last year or two and that's not going to change."

  • Staying behind

A group of Manchester United fans have remained inside Old Trafford after their 0-0 draw to protest against the Glazers.

talkSPORT's Alex Crook reports that they have been chanting anti-Glazer songs during their organised sit-in.

It has been planned by the '1958' Man United fans' group.

Member Chris Haymes said ahead of the Manchester derby: “I think the City protest is quite a decent one for us because we’re going to get people to sit in their seats.

"MUST did a flash survey and they reckon there are going to be about 7,000 concessions, OAP people, are not going to renew their seats, so they are trying to price them out of their seats.

“We’re going to tell you to sit in your seat, that’s your seat, that’s the seat you paid for that you probably have done for the last 50 or 60 years.

“So after the game, we’re going to tell you to stay in your seat. It is an easy one for us, and we will stay in our seats. People around the stadium have been in their seats for 50 or 60 years.”

  • 'A difficult day'

Southampton manager Ivan Juric has reacted to his side being confirmed as the first team relegated this season.

The Saints could also still set a new record for the lowest points ever in a season, but Juric is going to make sure they don't.

"We have to avoid that record," he said. "It cannot happen.

"Some are experiencing relegation for the first time, so there will be a lot of emotions from them over the next few days.

"The lads who have been here before, we have to try to pick the young boys up. This group did incredible things last season.

"Nobody will want to jump ship with seven games to go. We are tight and we have just got to pull each other through now."

On whether talks have been ongoing regarding his own future, Juric added: "No, now we will see everything.

"We are thinking just about the games now. We will see now what everyone thinks, what I think.

"The fans deserve much more and we have to understand all of the mistakes we have made and then create something really strong.

"It's a difficult day, a tough day but I see the fans, how they love their players and their team - it's something incredible.

"This experience has to serve to create something stronger than this."

  • Man United 0-0 Man City: FULL TIME

It's all over in the Manchester derby.

The two bitter rivals play out a goalless draw.

This is the first derby without a goal since 2020.

Both Man United and Man City struggled to do anything of note and there's no surprise that it ends 0-0.

United move up to 13th in the Premier League while City miss out on the chance to overtake Chelsea and boost their hopes of a Champions League place.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

90' Into stoppage time we go.

We'll have another four minutes at Old Trafford.

Some will be happy that this derby is almost over.

It's going to rank very low in the history of this great fixture.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

87' Time is running out now.

We're still goalless and things haven't picked up.

Man City are on the back foot though, and it's Man United who are putting on some late pressure.

Joshua Zirkzee has made a real positive impact.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

84' Man City haven't had a shot in a long time.

Their last attempt was in the 68th minute.

It's the hosts who have looked the more threatening and they have the momentum with them as we enter the final stages.

Although, Leny Yoro has just been shown a yellow card.

The two teams have just over five minutes to win it.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

81' Another penalty appeal comes from Man United.

Casemiro and Mateo Kovacic clash in the penalty area, with the Brazilian throwing himself down after getting a touch.

He claims that Kovacic kicks him but replays show a limited amount of contact and the referee waves it away.

VAR then agrees with the on-field decision.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

78' The first bit of real intensity comes from Joshua Zirkzee.

He charges down the Man City defence and blocks a clearance before winning a throw-in and the Old Trafford crowd roars.

Then a few moments later, he fires a shot at goal that forces Ederson to dive to his right and deny him!

What will be going through the two managers' minds with time ticking in this Manchester derby?

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

75' Into the last quarter of an hour at Old Trafford.

We're still goalless in this Manchester derby.

Despite some more shots going in, things remain lacklustre and this may well end as the score currently stands.

Man City have made two changes, with Rico Lewis and Jack Grealish coming on for Ilkay Gundogan and Nico O'Reilly.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

72' A chance now comes at the other end!

Manuel Ugarte skims a volley at goal from the edge, similarly to Omar Marmoush, but it pings just wide!

Man United then make a double change.

Ugarte comes off after his shot, with Mason Mount returning after a long spell away through injury.

Joshua Zirkzee is on for Rasmus Hojlund too.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

70' What a hit, Omar Marmoush!

The Egyptian unleashes an absolute rocket with a first-time strike from the edge of the box.

But Andre Onana stays strong, pushing away with his palms.

It means we're still goalless heading into the last 20.

This is the longest wait for a goal in a Premier League Manchester derby since a 0-0 draw in December 2020.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

68' Man United's first yellow card comes out.

It's for Diogo Dalot after he drags Jeremy Doku back.

No complaints from Dalot for the United fans there.

Kevin De Bruyne then whips a free-kick in from the left wing, with Ruben Dias' header blocked wide.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

65' Still we wait for some action.

Man City win a free-kick in a dangerous position and Omar Marmoush stands over it with Kevin De Bruyne.

It's Marmoush who shoots but Andre Onana saves easily.

We've got just around 25 minutes to see an opener.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

    62' There's a huge shout for a handball!

Ruben Dias slips over in the box and looks to have potentially handballed it when blocking a cross.

He instantly rises to say it hit his chest and that does seem so, with VAR backing up that statement.

    Dias is very lucky there!

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

61' Quality continues to be a rarity in this derby.

Neither side have been at their best at Old Trafford and things have fallen flat in the second half.

Someone needs to step up and add something different.

At the moment, both sides are cancelling each other out.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

58' We're nearing the last half hour.

And both teams have made a change at the same time.

Phil Foden comes off for Man City as Jeremy Doku comes on.

For Man United, Harry Maguire is off for Victor Lindelof.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

55' Kevin De Bruyne hits the target again.

But similarly to his first effort at goal, the ball just dribbles slowly into Andre Onana's hands.

At the other end, Diogo Dalot whips a cross in and forces Ederson to charge out and punch away.

The City goalkeeper then collects another cross soon after.

  • Man United 0-0 Man City

52' Nothing much has changed since the break.

Neither side have lifted the intensity and it continues to be Man City controlling the ball with Man United lacking quality.

We really need something to get the game going.

For a derby, the players don't seem too interested.
