Fulham eyeing summer move for West Bromwich Albion loanee

Fulham are eyeing up a summer move for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.

The 28-year-old has spent this season on loan in the Championship with West Bromwich Albion and has scored 21 goals.

Fulham, who have been relegated from the Premier League, are keen on bringing him to London to bolster their attack ahead of the next campaign, according to a report by the Express and Star.

Gayle is a proven goal scorer at Championship level and Fulham could see him as the man to fire them to an immediate promotion back to the top flight. It is believed West Brom are keen on signing him on a permanent basis but his future at the Hawthorns could depend on whether they are promoted this season.

Newcastle will offload Gayle for the right price and could potentially use him as part of a deal to bring Fulham’s Tom Cairney to St James’ Park this summer.

Gayle has fallen down the pecking order under Rafa Benitez, hence why they had no problem loaning him out for this campaign.

He joined the North-East side from Crystal Palace in July 2016 and scored 23 goals in all competitions in his first season at the club to help them gain promotion from the Championship. However, first-team opportunities for him were hard to come by last season in the top flight.

Gayle’s level appears to be in the second tier and a move to Fulham this summer would be ideal for him.
