Paul Merson sends brutal response to Tottenham Hotspur fan after Premier League season ends

The entertaining days have returned to Tottenham Hotspur once again.

Before a ball was kicked for the start of the 2023/24 Premier League season, you couldn’t fault the Tottenham fans for being downbeat and worrying about the campaign ahead.

Yes, Ange Postecoglou seemed very positive and his press conferences proved to be a breath of fresh air to everyone, even those on the outside.

But Harry Kane was sold days before the opening game against Brentford and it just worsened the mood, with many predicting the club to suffer and not improve on their European-less finish from the previous season.

Paul Merson wasn’t shy to air his views because he thought Tottenham would finish in the ‘bottom half’ without their all-time leading goalscorer.

Gary Neville recently reacted to that pre-season prediction and he wasn’t impressed!

But with Spurs securing fifth spot after beating Sheffield United on the final day, improving on the previous campaign, scoring goals for fun and showing no signs of missing Kane.

You can’t fault the fans for reminding Merson of his prediction and how he got it horribly wrong.

But as they tried to stick the knife in, the former Arsenal man issued a brutal response on Twitter by telling the supporters to ‘add it to the trophy cabinet’.

“Brilliant,” responded Merson to his pre-season prediction. “Add that to the trophy cabinet ‘Prove Paul Merson wrong’”

Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League

It’s another chance for Spurs to win silverware and you know Postecoglou will be pushing his team even further to get over that trophy line.

One issue the club had this season was the struggles they went through when certain players, such as Micky van de Ven, were injured.

The depth in quality isn’t there and, with more games added to the schedule for next season, the club have to do some serious business in the transfer market.

Step forward, Daniel Levy. This is where Spurs fans usually get frustrated with their chairman because he isn’t as ambitious or he doesn’t push the boat out as they would like.

That’s why it’s going to be interesting to see what type of deals the club concludes because they might need to get rid of players before bringing them in.
